In Belgium, a branch of Europe's largest privately held producers of mushroom growing compost is located with a production of phase 1, 2 and 3. Due to the strict European Environmental procedures, the company put a lot of investments in making sure the phase 1 production can be done indoors. Good ammonia and odour emission reduction is a big requirement. Which system is best suited for this purpose?
SOLUTION AEC SYSTEMS
In an earlier stage AEC Systems supplied the technique for two outdoor scrubber units at the composting site, which was to everybody's satisfaction. Therefore AEC Systems was asked to develop the most suitable scrubber system for the indoor composting expansion.
For this facility we designed and developed a multi-stage scrubber that cleans the air efficiently. In the first stage, H2SO4 (sulfuric acid) is added to the wash water, in order to neutralize the ammonia, and to convert it into the almost odorless ammonium sulfate. This is a high-grade fertilizer, which is used to enrich the compost. In the second stage water filters the residual odour from the air.
The system contains:
- a multi stage scrubber
- a double walled storage tank for indoor purposes with double walled ducting
- a chimney
- complete automation (Siemens) of all components
ADVANTAGES OF THE AEC MULTI STAGE SCRUBBER
The water packages of the multi stage scrubber have an extra-large surface area and offer a low air resistance at the filter during the cleaning of the air flow. A unique pump technology enables a continuous irrigation of the unit so that it keeps the complete system clean. The pump unit also lowers energy costs. The system, like all products of AEC Systems, is easily accessible and therefore maintenance friendly.
