The air scrubbers for the Dutch biogas plant in Groningen have now been successfully installed, and AEC Systems is completing the final commissioning phase of the project. Meanwhile, in our production facility, we are building a new H₂S air scrubber for another biogas installation in Friesland. These projects demonstrate our growing expertise in designing and delivering air scrubbers for Dutch biogas plants that combine reliability, safety, and environmental performance.
What is H₂S and Why Is It a Risk?
Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) is produced during the breakdown of organic materials such as manure, wastewater, and biogas. Known for its characteristic “rotten egg” odor, H₂S can cause strong odor nuisance even at very low concentrations. At higher levels, the gas becomes toxic and contributes to the corrosion of steel pipes, tanks, and other metal equipment.
Effective removal of H₂S is therefore essential for every biogas plant—both to ensure safe working conditions and to protect valuable installations.
