Effective Air Purification with the AEC 3-Stage Scrubber
We recently delivered a powerful AEC scrubber to a company that produces green chemicals, alternative fuels, and green industrial fertilizers.
The company, based in Germany, is committed to a better environment with impressive results: 30,000 tons of CO₂ are saved annually, and 70,000 tons of water are produced. This water meets strict drinking water standards and can be used as demineralized water for applications such as hydrogen production or safely discharged into surface water. In addition, the company reduces nitrate pollution in groundwater by efficiently processing manure and digestate.
FROM DIGESTATE TO DRY PRODUCT
In September 2022, construction began on a new, fully equipped processing facility in Germany. This state-of-the-art facility, which became operational in 2024 with a capacity of 110,000 m³, processes digestate, sewage sludge, and agricultural waste. A critical part of the process is the drying of digestate using a dryer.
During the fermentation of organic waste, biogas is released, leaving behind a liquid residue: digestate. This digestate is further processed by separating moisture, leaving a dryer, solid fraction. The solid fraction is then dried in a dryer. However, during the drying process, warm, moist air is released, containing high concentrations of emissions, including ammonia, fine dust, and odours. Without additional measures, this can lead to odour nuisance and air pollution in the surrounding area.
NEW PROCESSING FACILITY CHOOSES AEC 3-STAGE SCRUBBER
For an optimal solution to emissions, the company chose a powerful AEC 3-stage scrubber. This air purification system, built from multiple treatment stages, cleans the air streams released during the drying process before they are released into the atmosphere.
How Does the AEC scrubber Work?
The polluted air from the dryer is passed through the scrubber and cleaned efficiently and effectively. In this system, water droplets—often enriched with chemicals such as acids or bases—are used to clean the process air stream. Various air pollutants are removed in this way.
This process ensures:
- Neutralization of odour molecules
- Removal of ammonia and harmful gases
- Capture of dust particles
